Meet the Counselor

Kaitlin Tollison, LCSW-S
Hi! My name is Kaitlin Tollison. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Supervisor (LCSW-S) in North Texas providing virtual, clinically-informed, Biblical counseling to individual and couples (ages 12+). I have a passion for supporting clients through a lens of Scripture as they work towards their treatment goals. I have experience treating many problems that people face, including grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, career stress, caregiver fatigue, and spiritual concerns.
In addition to my direct counseling work, I am Board-Certified clinical supervisor, and I enjoy helping new clinicians find their niche and treatment style. One of my areas of expertise is in the school setting providing counseling working from a Biblical-lens.
Outside of the treatment space, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two wonderfully wild daughters, serving at my church, working in my yard, and eating chips and salsa.
Background & Experience
I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of North Texas in December 2012 and with my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington in December 2014. After graduation, I began pursing my clinical licensure which I obtained in February 2018. In February 2020, I obtained the Supervisor credential (LCSW-S) in order to support and supervise other aspiring clinicians in gaining their clinical licensure.
During my undergraduate education, I completed internships with a hospice company where I assisted clients and their families in the areas of end-of-life care, family dynamics, and grief. My second internship was completed at a private practice doing individual, family, and group therapy where I gained experience treating and working with clients (children, adolescents, and adults) experiencing various mental health challenges and crises. This line of work captured my heart, and I started the journey to obtain my clinical license with the same private practice and became a contracting therapist for the agency.
Alongside my clinical journey, I worked in a non-profit where I gained extensive experience providing case management, counseling, and crisis support services to clients and their families through the education system. In addition, I find joy in providing supervision to other social workers and clinicians and in leading trainings for other helping professionals and parents.
Counseling Philosophy & Approach
Counseling is an active choice that impacts all aspects of a person--body, mind, heart, and soul. Because I choose to practice Biblical counseling, I view problems presented through the lens of Scripture and utilize interventions anchored to Christ and the gospel. We often find ourselves in situations or hardship (whether it's as a result of our own doing, someone else's, or both). The Bible teaches that God not only cares about this brokenness, but desires to meet us there and offer something better. While each client comes with his or her own unique circumstances, difficulties, and goals, I aim to walk with each of them to the foot of the cross. There we examine how we can find and obtain what we truly desire. We only ever do this at the pace the client chooses in order to ensure that they see the counseling work leading to their desired goals, even when it is challenging.
What I
Believe
My counseling philosophy may seem unique to many clients familiar with traditional counseling. Therefore, I like to be transparent about my beliefs so that It is important to note that I solely practice clinically-informed, Biblical counseling. Since Christianity is wide and encompasses many different churches and traditions, I think it's important to be clear about what I believe so that hose seeking counseling may make informed decisions in terms of who they choose to involve in their care. I believe that:
God has created all people in His image and desires that all may come to Him and know true freedom, peace, hope, comfort, and love.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God--fully God and fully man--who offered His life as payment for mankind’s sins through His death and resurrection.
Scripture is inerrant and sufficient for instruction and wisdom pertaining to the problems we encounter.
Change happens when we allow the the Holy Spirit to work in our lives and we respond this work.
In addition to this, I believe that every person, regardless of belief system, is worthy of care! If I am not the right fit for your counseling needs and desires, I would be happy to help direct you to other counselors you may be more comfortable with.
